Description
We will tour around Akrotiri peninsula. First visit the historic monasteries of Agia Triada and Gouverneto. They played an active role in the local history. We will marvel the magnificent architecture and structure of the monasteries and explore their rich history. Being religious myself, I can explain many things regarding the traditions and practices of the Orthodox faith.
Next we will relax for two hours by the crystal clear waters of Aegean sea in the beautiful bay of Stavros. Oscar nominated Zorbas the Greek was filmed on this beach.
On the way back we will stop at Venizelos graves to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Chania. The cafes near the graves are popular with locals from morning to sunset.
There are a few options to customize this tour. We could visit of Chania old town for 2 hours, from Gouverneto hike for 1-2 hours to Arkoudiotisa cave and later to Katholiko, an ancient monastic community or do a wine tasting at Agia Triada monastery. Please message us for more details.
Itinerary
- Pick up and drop off from Souda port, your hotel/accommodation in the greater Chania area or any other nearby convenient location
- Estimated time of arrival from Chania 45 minutes by car
- First stop at the Monastery of Agia Triada. Stay 45 minutes. Visit monastery, its Wine Cellar, Folclore and Artifacts and Woodcrafts Exhibition. Optional wine tour.
- Second stop at the Monastery of Gouverneto. Stay 30 minutes. Visit monastery
- Optional hike to the Cave of Arkoudiotisa and later to Katholiko, an ancient monastic community. Between 1-2 hours, including rest
- Third stop at Stavros Beach, stay 2 hours, swim and optionally have lunch
- Last stop is Venizelos Graves, stay 20 minutes, enjoy the panoramic view of Chania
- Alternative option, 2 hour hike including rest to Katholiko, an ancient monastic early Christian community dated back in 4th century
